Davey and Kim first met at UCLA. They were both in the same Christian fellowship, AACF, and attended Lighthouse Community Church. They first grew as friends through a shared love of playing basketball. They often woke up early or stayed up late to play ball with friends. Outside of sports, Davey and Kim would have conversations about church and college life. Kim would have questions and Davey happily answered at great length (to keep the conversation going). Davey began to realize that Kim was mature and a critical thinker; he saw how she took her faith seriously and always asked questions she didn't have answers to. These qualities stood out among others that he was attracted to in Kim. Kim looked up to Davey as an upperclassman and someone a head taller than her. Kim noticed the ways that Davey loved and served the church and led as a role model amongst peers. She admired how he brought people together with his hospitality and easy-going nature. Then came February 2018. AACF Basketball Tournament. Davey, being overly competitive, found himself feeling down after his last game of the day. Kim, noticing his disappointment, went over to cheer him up. This interaction sticks out as the first time Davey affirmed in his heart that he liked Kim a lot. From there Davey began to think about the possibility of dating her. Kim affirmed her attraction to Davey over Spring Break, when she and Davey were on separate missions trips, praying for each other throughout the week. After two months of praying and consulting friends, Davey decided to have a talk with Kim. That talk turned into several days of long conversations about dating and relationships. It culminated in a melodramatic international phone call (Davey was in Canada at the time) when Kim agreed to move forward in their relationship. Kim and Davey began dating on April 16, 2018. After 3.5 years of joys, mistakes, and lots of learning, Davey popped the question at UCLA on December 11, 2021, and Kim said yes!
