Our Beginning

By Dave

A true classic story of boy meets girl. In 2015 Dave was working at Tree House Brewing Company where he often did crowd control and made sure the very long lines of people knew exactly what to do and where to go. Occasionally, when the lines were small and the crowds had mellowed there would be sample pours for the guests, typically one sample at a time. Well this particular day samples were flowing and Erin approached the bar, immediately Dave knew rules were going to be broken and he pulled out some very old flight boards and offered everything they had. Erin had been to the brewery before (at the request of her older brother Ryan) but a sample flight was something new that certainly didn't happen every time. Conversations were had and what appeared to be a flash of a moment ended with Erin leaving with a box full of growlers and nothing more to come. Dave knew this was a unique interaction and decided he needed to do something. He found her on social media and reached out in a friendly manner just to let her know a stout was being released that week as he recalled she really enjoyed stouts and chocolaty beers. Explaining he was just looking for an excuse to message her, Erin quickly let him know, no excuses were needed to reach out. Conversations continued and they would exchange pleasantries whenever Erin came to the brewery. She was often standing in line with a box full of empty growlers to be filled and a hand packed with flash cards to study. The years had passed and 2017 was here. Erin had finished school and just got a job in northeastern Massachusetts. She had moved to Chelmsford, MA and was excited to start the next chapter of her life. During that summer she was driving back home to Connecticut and stopped at the new brewery location in Charlton, MA. Erin reached out to Dave just to say 'hi'. Dave dropped what he was doing and slipped out the back door to the pavilion to meet her where she stood in the most stunning white sundress. He quickly offered a tour of the new facility and told his coworkers he was taking lunch (not everyone approved as the crowds were growing but he knew what he was doing). While the lines were moving slowly and seemingly endless, Dave walked carefree throughout the brewery showing Erin everything from the basketball hoop to the brew deck. Upon conclusion of the tour, they hugged and said goodbye and the day continued, but all of Dave's coworkers noticed the tour and many asked when the next date would be. Finally the time had come, date number one. Dave had reached out and asked for brunch and Erin agreed. While they lived approximately 100 miles apart (Enfield to Chelmsford), a middle ground was the reasonable place. A brewery also seemed fitting as that was an enjoyment they shared. Jack's Abby was the place, breakfast pizzas and beers were the starter. The conversation was easy and simple. Erin had only one stipulation that she needed to be home in time to register for the Tree House 5k which went live at 7PM. Since it was brunch this never seemed to be in doubt. However the minutes turned to hours and before we knew it it was 7PM, registration was live and we were still at the brewery. After a 12 hour first date, it was clear there was something special happening here. 100 miles separated us, but it never felt like work to spend time together. The rest is truly history, and this is the story of us.
