We met growing up in Ortonville Michigan. Our parents happened to be at the same coffee shop when they realized they both had kids around the same age going through the same teenager things. "The rest is history". Michelle & Russ Adams have 6 kids; Brittany, Ben, Bailey, Belle, Brendan and Brady. Nancy & Matt Green have 3 kids; Bryan, Julie, and Darrin. That made it easy for the three oldest to become friends. After a few years of friendship, movie and Starbucks outings the Green's moved to Flower Mound Texas for Matt's Job. The two families visited eachother over the years, but eventually only stayed in touch through social media.
Bailey graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development in 2016. She then went on to pursue a career in Higher Education where she hoped to work in a housing department as a graduate assistant to have her tuition paid for. She began job searching and attending on campus interviews. Upon posting that she would be visiting Texas Tech University, Darrin & Bailey's mom's then began "planning". When Bailey visited Texas Tech University in March of 2016 she stayed at a bed and breakfast in-between interviews and her busy on campus itinerary. However, Darrin found the opportunity to take her out to dessert her last night there. The two met on the steps of the bed and breakfast (The Woodrow House)and now say they "knew" in that moment. They spent the evening talking for a few hours over a molten lava chocolate cake. Once Bailey accepted the position at Texas Tech they hung out a few times, but it wasn't too long until hanging out turned to dating, and dating turned into falling in love!
This is the weekend Darrin brought Bailey back to Flower Mound. He conveniently reminded her on the way back that she was the first girl he had ever brought home. Then immediately took the Michigan girl out dancing with the Schemmel family. Over the next few days they spent time with family and Darrin decided to call Mr. Adams to ask his permission. Though he didn't want to ask over the phone, Russ was excited to hear this question. Darrin asked Bailey later that afternoon and they made it facebook official!
To say that it was difficult to keep this a surprise is an understatement because Bailey is in constant communication with her mom. I've (Darrin) always heard that a woman needs three things when she's being proposed to: a photographer, her hair/makeup/nails to be done, and her family. On the day of Bailey's, graduation Darrin spent the morning making sure all of the last minute touches were in place. Darrin accompanied Bailey and her parents to her graduation where she proudly walked the stage. Meanwhile, when pictures were being taken with her professors, the Green family was at the Woodrow house finalizing the special touches. Eventually, Darrin convinced Bailey to follow him to the Woodrow house for "graduation picture," where the Green family was waiting to help take pictures. The Woodrow house was a first place Darrin had re-met Bailey since they had seen each other in Michigan. After some convincing, Bailey agreed to take some "starter" pictures without her cap and gown. Then her and Darrin walked down the walkway lined with rose petals and roses in vases. After a couple moments of "ooh this is pretty what's this for?" Bailey soon realized that a larger surprise was about to happen. After a little shaking and a lot of nervous mumbling Darrin proposed and Bailey happily said YES! We were both thankful to have our parents and Julie there to celebrate as well!
