If coming by plane, the best place to fly into would probably be Durango. You could also take a cheaper flight to Albuquerque (3.5 hours) or Denver (7 hours) and rent a car and drive from there.

Camping!
Since the road into the Observatory is quite the trek, we are encouraging all our adventurous family and friends to camp close to the venue after (and before!) the wedding. Luckily, there is a primitive campground just a 5 minute walk from our venue! Come for the whole weekend and bring your fishing pole, paddle board, and hiking boots to enjoy the high country lakes and trails! If the campground is full, you can disperse camp on the plentiful pullouts along the Alta Lakes Road. Also Gold King basin is just a 5-10 minute drive up the spur road which splits off to the right of the main Alta Lakes Road just before the campground. This gorgeous basin is full of dispersed sites with some of the most beautiful and rugged views you can imagine! 10/10 would definitely recommend!
