Things To Do

Here are some of our favorite spots to visit or eat in or around Washington DC

United States National Arboretum

3501 New York Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC 20002

If you have some time to kill, the Arboretum is a must visit. Plus it will be fall and the leaves should be transitioning at this time. It's a quick cab ride or bike ride to get there. Don't miss the Asian Collection and the Bonsai Museum.

Los Tios Grill

2615 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301

Dan's favorites are the Sopa de Mariscos and the Pollo Acapulco. Lisa likes the chile con queso and the red snapper. Note: They now have two locations. One in Alexandria in Del Ray and the other in Crystal City. Both are great.

Las Placitas Restaurant

1100 8th Street Southeast, Washington, DC 20003

One of Dan's favorite spots on Capitol Hill. The sopa de mariscos is huge and delicious and the margaritas are not bad!

Anacostia Riverwalk Trail

Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, Washington, DC

This is Lisa's favorite spot to bike ride. Mostly a protected trail, it takes you all the way to college park and beyond depending on the time you have and stamina. The best ride takes you to Lake Artemesia in Maryland or you can take a shorter ride that takes you past RFK stadium into Navy Yard.

Hank's Oyster Bar

701 Wharf Street Southwest, Washington, DC 20024

Our favorite place to grab oysters, a drink and enjoy a nice view of the SW Waterfront.

AMBAR Restaurant, Capitol Hill

523 8th Street Southeast, Washington, DC 20003

By far one of our favorite restaurants, we love it so much we had our after wedding brunch party here! It's an all you can eat experience with Balkan inspired food and it's oh so good!

Osteria Morini

301 Water Street Southeast, Washington, DC 20003

For a long time, this was one of the first restaurants to eat at in Navy Yard and it has stood the test of time. They have an excellent and extensive Italian wine list and the food that accompanies it, ain't to shabby.

Your Only Friend

1114 9th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20001

When your friend owns the place, you have to recommend it, right? We'd recommend it regardless. Heaping sandwiches full of flavor with many options to fit even the pickiest of eaters! Your Only Friend is not to be missed!

National Museum of Asian Art

1050 Independence Avenue Southwest, Washington, DC 20004

The Freer Gallery and the Sackler Gallery (yes, that Sackler family of oxycontin fame) in the National Museum of Asian Art, is many times overlooked by DC visitors but it is so worth your time.
