National Eagle Center
The National Eagle Center is a world class raptor center in Wabasha, just 18 minutes south of Lake City on the river. Check out their website for more details on their programming, events, and visitor information - they just finished a large remodel.
Frontenac State Park
Frontenac State Park is one of our absolute favorite parks in the region - the lower bluff trail in particular is just spectacular. You will have to pay for parking if you don't already have a MN State Parks Pass, but it's worth it for lovely hiking through varied terrain. It's only about 20 minutes north of Lake City / Hok Si La along the river.
Pearl of the Lake boat tour or Lake Pepin
We have not gone on one of these tours yet, but if the weather is nice, it would be the perfect way to spend a couple of hours on Lake Pepin and learn about that area o the Mississippi River!
He Mni Can-Barn Bluff Park
He Mni Can-Barn Bluff Park in Red Wing also has spectacular trails on the top of the bluffs with various trails (in a range of difficulty) described in detail on their website. Red Wing is about 20-25 minutes north of Lake City / Hok Si La.
Red Wing Fall Arts Festival
We haven't had a chance to explore the Fall Arts Festival yet, but it looks fun! From their website: "Our juried two-day fine arts festival is one of Red Wing Arts’ core programming events, designed to feature and celebrate our 100-plus regional artists in the heart of Red Wing. Festival visitors can expect a variety of high-caliber original works of art for purchase, as well as other opportunities to be inspired, whether it’s listening to concerts in the bandshell, watching live painting, creating something beautiful, or eating delicious food." Red Wing is about 20-25 minutes north of Lake City / Hok Si La.
Kinstone
We just learned about this place from some friends and hope to visit soon! It's about an hour south of Lake City / Hok Si La on the other side of the river. Here's a description from their website: "Kinstone is a 30-acre haven of peaceful beauty filled with stone sculpture, natural buildings, restored native prairie, oak savanna and spectacular views over the Mississippi River. Located outside of Fountain City, Wisconsin, and just over 2 hours southeast of the Minneapolis/Saint Paul airport or 3 hours from Madison, you can enjoy the tranquility of this one-of-a-kind place on a day trip or plan to visit when staying in this beautiful region. This modern megalithic site with its three stone circles, dolmen, labyrinth, thatched cordwood chapel and more is a truly magical place!"
Stockholm, WI
Stockholm, WI is just across Lake Pepin from Hok Si La, and is a super cute town with a famous pie shop, galleries, vintage shopping, and lots to discover in the small downtown adjacent to the riverside park. It's about 40 minutes from Lake City / Hok Si La (you have to travel either north or south to cross the river). Address above is to the General Store / Pie Shop in the center of town.
Maiden Rock, WI
Maiden Rock is just north of Stockholm on the other side of Lake Pepin. It has a winery / cider (https://www.maidenrockappleswinerycidery.com) and cute shops, including Cultural Cloth (https://culturalcloth.com), which has gorgeous fair-trade, hand-made goods by women artisans around the world. Maiden Rock is 35-45 minutes from Lake City / Hok Si La.
