Mexico Travel Basics
Money:
We recommend bringing about $800 pesos per day (~$45 USD) for local shops, but many larger stores and restaurants accept major credit cards.
Language:
Basic Spanish is always recommended, but in touristy areas, people will know some English. Use Google Translate when in doubt.
Tolls:
To reach Ensenada, you will need to pay at 3 toll booths. These are cash only, and we suggest paying in pesos to save money. Each toll booth costs about ~$55 pesos. We recommend having at least $400 pesos for both ways (or about $25 USD).
Gas:
Gasoline in Mexico is measured in liters, so make sure to know your conversions at the gas station (1 gallon = 4 liters). There are gas attendants who pump your gas; do not exit your car. Use Google Translate if needed.
Driving Etiquette:
Driving in Mexico as you head into Ensenada is a little more defensive than in the US. Be cautious and drive at the speed limit set by those around you. Also, be mindful of the road as exits often come up quickly.
