Tips for NYC Newcomers: If you're heading into the city from Long Island, download the MTA TrainTime app to purchase Long Island Railroad tickets ahead of time. The price depends on time, day, and location of origin. If you're navigating around the city via subway, the OMNY app allows you to pay to ride the subway and manage your card balance without purchasing a physical card. In NYC, a single subway ride typically costs $2.90 with OMNY. A single fare includes a free transfer between the subway and local buses. Transferring between subway lines without leaving the station is also free. * Note, the subway and LIRR are two separate tickets. If you're driving into the city you can pay for parking ahead of time with the ParkWhiz app.
