We met on the eve of Danielle's 27th birthday: August 17, 2013. Danielle was back in San Diego and eager to celebrate with her friends after having moved to London six months earlier for work. Kevin, who had arrived in San Diego two months after Danielle left to start a job at the same company, was tagging along with coworkers to the birthday party of some girl who lived in London. So, while we were technically coworkers, we really met for the first time at Danielle's favorite bar: Tipsy Crow. After a couple celebratory birthday drinks, Danielle noticed Kevin in the group. She consulted with some close friends about whether to dance with him, and they OK'd it. They hit it off right away. Later in the week included a company offsite party, beer pong in PB and hang out time. Kevin kept talking about his love for America while Danielle kept reminding him that she lived in England. And Danielle kept playing Avicii's Wake Me Up on YouTube on repeat because she loved the song so much and just had to share it with him. Not quite the deep conversations that typically lead to marriage. Danielle went back to London, Kevin stayed in San Diego and they didn't talk for 4 months. Fast forward to January 2014 when Danielle came back to San Diego again for a work trip. She ran into Kevin in the office kitchen. It was awkward, but the interest was re-sparked. Later that day, she filled in on the CGI soccer team where Kevin also played. She confirmed his athletic ability (an important checkmark). After the game, they went to a team dinner, and Kevin said something about his study abroad experience in Italy (another important checkmark: love for travel and the world). He was also tall, had a beard and was a genuinely good person. He had enough checkmarks for Danielle to continue the conversation, so she texted him that night and he responded instantly. Kevin always thought Danielle was smart, pretty, fun, and awesome, so it was an easy decision. They've talked every day since.
