In our story, we didn’t meet in the traditional sense. Our story started online over Facebook in October of 2018. I had just lived my ACTS retreat and had felt like a whole new person. I started posting more and more about my experience in which I noticed that Jose was liking and commenting on many of my posts. He also went as far as to like any picture of myself that I would upload to get my attention. One day, I decided to take a leap of faith and message Jose simply asking why he was liking and commenting on my posts on Facebook so much. To my surprise, he replied “it’s about time you noticed.” From there, we began to send messages back and forth over the next month. We then went on our first date in November in which we attended mass, went to an ACTS function, had dinner at Chick-Fil-A, and met Cassandra at a bar. We then began to go on more dates over the next month before Jose asked me to be his girlfriend. Within the next year, we spent many days together which included meeting each other's families, taking vacations together, and going through life changing events with each other’s support.
It was in late 2019 Jose started thinking of proposing to me. Over the next few months, he was able to speak to both my father and mother to ask for their permission to marry me. He also sought the blessing from his parents to enter this new stage of his life with me. He then decided to propose to me at midnight on New Year’s Eve 2019 going into 2020. I had no idea the proposal was going to take place at the New Year’s Eve party we were attending with both of our families. At the stroke of midnight before we shared our first kiss of the New Year, Jose asked me three 4 questions. The first question was “Do you love me?”. The second question was “Do you trust me?”. The third question was “Will you trust me with the rest of your life?”. The final question was the most important one of all “Will you marry me?”. I said yes with many tears in my eyes as Jose placed my engagement ring on my finger and we shared not only our first kiss of the New Year, but our first kiss as an engaged couple.
