Ferry to Nantucket

Nantucket, MA

If you're in town for a few days, we strongly recommend taking a day trip on the ferry to Nantucket. Nantucket is a special place for the bride and groom because Danielle's parents first met there and about 30 years later is where they met their future son-in-law, Jase. We recommend either The Freedom Cruise Line departing from Harwich Port or the Hy-Line Cruise departing from Hyannis. A one-way ferry is about an hour and brings you to downtown Nantucket. Once you're downtown, no car is needed since the town is extremely walkable. We recommend checking out the Club Car for a drink, the Juice Bar for the famous ice cream or many awesome restaurants for fresh seafood. One of our favorite places is Cisco Brewers for an outdoor beer garden and live music. They have a free shuttle from downtown. If you you really want to fit in, you can always check out Murray's Toggery for their famous Nantucket Red pants. High heels aren't recommended as the cobble stone streets may be a challenge!

Ferry to Martha's Vineyard

Edgartown, MA

Another fun day trip we recommend is taking the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. This Hy-Line Cruise is the fast ferry that departs from Hyannis. This ferry is about one hour each way. Martha's Vineyard is about 3 times the size of Nantucket, so we recommend taxis or the public bus once you are over there. The ferry will arrive in Oak Bluffs, but we recommend taking a 20 minute taxi to Edgartown, which has a lot of cute shops and restaurants or to Vineyard Haven to grab a bite at the famous Black Dog Tavern. If you're looking for an active day, it's fun to rent bikes in Oak Bluffs and take the beachside bike path all the way to Edgartown. This is an 8 mile ride and if you don't want to ride back you can take the bike-friendly public bus back. If you're looking for a true fisherman's village, you can take a 30 minute taxi out to Menemsha where you can sit on the lobster traps and watch the fishing boats arrive with your lunch straight from the sea.

Shopping & Dining in Chatham

Chatham, MA

Chatham is an adorable town on the Cape that has great shops and restaurants. Chatham has the quintessential New England Main street lined with beautiful old churches and architecture. Lighthouse Beach is also worth checking out on sunny day. It is the neighboring town to Harwich Port and about a 35 minute drive from the Red Jacket Beach Resort.
