Flight
For guests traveling from Toronto, Windsor, or Detroit, the easiest way to reach Madeira (FNC – Funchal Airport/Cristiano Ronaldo Airport) is with a connection through Lisbon (LIS) or Porto (OPO). - From Toronto (YYZ): Direct flights to Lisbon with TAP Air Portugal, Air Canada, and Azores Airlines. From Lisbon, it's a short 1.5-hour flight to Madeira. - From Windsor/Detroit: Fly from Detroit (DTW) or Windsor (YQG) to Toronto (YYZ) or a major European hub (like Lisbon or London), then connect to Madeira. Once in Madeira, taxis, hotel shuttles, and rental cars are readily available to get you to your destination.
Rental Car
Uber is not available on the island, so we recommend renting a car if you're staying longer in Madeira and interested in exploring outside of Santana. RentX has a free shuttle that takes you from Funchal Airport to their office 5min away, to pickup your rental. Alternatively, local taxis are available on the island, as well as public transportation and Bolt (Uber's European equivalent; however, its service is limited).
Travel Note
If tours are more your speed for getting around the island, Lido Tours is a great option. This local company offers a range of services, including island tours, levada and mountain walks, and boat trips. They are known for their professional guides and well-organized excursions. Other options for tour companies include: Adventure Madeira, Hit the Road Madeira, and Madeira Island Tours.
Hotel
Hotel Quinta do Furão is where our wedding ceremony and reception will be held. There is limited space at the hotel, so we will be listing other options in the area below.
House Or Rental
We highly recommend looking at Airbnbs, local guesthouses, or B&Bs in Santana — there are plenty of great options nearby and it’s a lovely area to stay in! If you prefer hotels, here are a few options within driving distance of the venue: ~20 minutes from the venue Taxis will be available after the wedding (exact time TBD). - Solar de Boaventura - Pestana Quinta do Arco ~30 minutes from the venue - Mediterrâneo Madeira - Calamar Hotel - Estalagem do Mar - Monte Mar Palace Hotel ~40 minutes from the venue (in Funchal) If you choose to stay in Funchal, we can look at setting up a shuttle to and from the venue — please let us know in advance! - The Cliff Bay - Pestana Casino Park Hotel - Pestana Carlton - Reid’s Palace - Pestana Royal All Inclusive
Travel Note
If you're looking to make the most of your time in Portugal before or after the wedding, consider visiting Lisbon, Porto, or Lagos—each offering a unique experience! 🛫 Getting There: Flights from Madeira to Lisbon (~1.5 hours) and Madeira to Porto (~2 hours) are frequent and affordable. If heading to Lagos, fly to Faro (~1.5 hours from Madeira), then take a train or rental car (~1.5 hours to Lagos). 📍 How Long to Stay: - Lisbon (2-4 days): Portugal’s vibrant capital is perfect for exploring historic neighborhoods, scenic viewpoints, and incredible food. Don't miss Belém, Alfama, and a tram ride through the city! - Porto (2-3 days): A charming riverside city known for its port wine, stunning azulejo tiles, and the famous Dom Luís I Bridge. Great for wine lovers and history buffs! - Lagos (3-5 days): A coastal paradise in the Algarve with dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, and a relaxed vibe. Perfect for those who love sun, surf, and stunning sea caves (like Benagil)!
