It was late December 2024 when Danielle, her mom, her sister, and a large group of friends were at AmericaFest walking around the convention halls in Phoenix, Arizona. This was a 4 day event organized by Turning Point USA. As one could imagine, Danielle was hopeful to meet a man of similar values. As Danielle was looking through the convention halls, there were many pop up booths filling the room. But one booth in particular caught her eye. Across the room, Danielle saw a very handsome, tall man wearing a ball cap and a collared shirt with cargo pants and steel toed boots. She noticed he was running the booth alone. There were tools on the table and a "Need Prayer?" sign. She thought to herself "Dang... just my type... He's running the booth all by himself, he MUST be a man of leadership. I never meet a "Mr. Fix" it man in California like that, I bet he can change his own car oil. AND he seems to love Jesus." This seemed a bit too good to be true. But she was surrounded by a possy of friends... and their parents. It was a bit hard to break away from a large pack without being noticed. So nothing happened and she kept walking. Day 2 came around...Day 3 came around... and she sees him for a third time. This time, she is alone and she thinks to herself, "Man, I fly home to San Diego tomorrow... I should at least make myself available". So she walks toward the booth, nervous and excited, hoping he would initiate a conversation. As she approached the edge of the table, his back was turned to her. But get this. His friend suddenly tapped him on the shoulder and says "dude we need to go now"... so he walked AWAY following his friend just as Danielle stood at the edge of the booth. He never saw Danielle, they never even talked... it was just a blimp of a moment saved in Danielle's memory as AmericaFest cutie. The next day, she flew home and finds herself on a first date with a man she had met in San Diego. The date went well, but she didn't feel this man was the one for her. She told him she'd love to set him up with one of her single christian friends. He took it VERY well. Because a week later this first date man texted Danielle, "Hey this is random but I think I know a guy for you". Danielle's heart jumped because a picture on the attached instagram was AmericaFest Cutie!! Turns out, AmericaFest cutie has a name...Brett McElhaney... AND he is a local San Diegan who has lived close by her ENTIRE life. He told Danielle, Brett was interested in texting her and asked if it were okay if he passed Danielle's number along to him. Danielle happily approved, and five minutes later, received the first text from her future husband. From Brett's perspective: It was the first day of 2025. Brett was just going through his day when he gets a text from a friend from church. It was a couple paragraphs long, but at quick glance it said, “hey brother, I have a girl in mind for you”. Immediately, I rolled my eyes and went back to work. I had been single for a while, and it felt like everybody always “had someone” for me. Usually, it never went anywhere. I thought more about that text throughout the day. My frustration started to shift into curiosity. I started to question. Am I even in this type of season? Can I really give a woman everything that she needs and deserves? January 2, 2025 I felt I had more confirmation that you know, “I’m in a good spot and I should go for it”. So I looked the girl up on Facebook was pretty taken back because she was really something special. Not gonna lie I started to Facebook stalk a little bit. I was like “man she’s way out of my league”. I texted my friend back while I was in Walmart getting some groceries, "It’d be great if you could put us in contact”. Danielle and I started talking over text while I was still in Walmart. I didn’t want the conversation to go dry, so I took a seat next to the cool whip in the frozen section. That was probably the longest time I’ve ever spent in Walmart in my life...
