How We Met

First comes band, then comes marriage

We were in the Husky Marching Band for almost 3 years, but we had never crossed paths. Who knew it would take the Huskies’ first bowl game in years and a bus ride to San Diego for us to meet? We first noticed each other a few days before the game during a rehearsal, and through some mutual friends we wound up at the same party that night. For that point forward we kept finding excuses to be around each other. We were almost inseparable for the rest of the trip and we stayed up all night talking after the football game. As we were getting to know each other we learned that we had a lot in common. Beyond just being band nerds, we were both regular nerds who liked movies, superheroes and Italian pizza. After a brief miscommunication on whether or not we were going on a date, we had our first date a couple weeks later when we watched Tron Legacy at the Pacific Science Center.

How He Proposed

The Perfect Date in Paradise

We were on a romantic date night out during a family vacation to Maui. It was our 3rd time vacationing in Hawaii together, but our first time visiting the famous Mama's Fish House. We had the best dinner of fresh fish and fruity cocktails surrounded by tropical flowers and a beautiful view of the Pacific ocean. At the end of the meal Danielle thought "My heart is full" and didn't think that the night could get any better. At that point, Jon started playing our song ("Beyond the Sea") on his phone and then got down on one knee. Danielle’s first reaction was "WHAAAT?!?!" immediately followed by happy tears. After she eventually was able to say "Yes", the last surprise was that Danielle’s family had been watching the proposal from behind the palm trees hiding in the bushes taking pictures. We ended the night covered in leis, having dessert and champagne with my family. It couldn't have been more perfect!
