Two Little Freshmen
Rose and I met freshman year of college at WashU in St. Louis. I remember seeing her at the first Lee 1 floor meeting because she was sitting in one of the comfortable chairs in the common room—her own little throne. It was notable because there were just a couple chairs, and maybe a couch or two, but everyone else had to sit on the floor. She seemed nice, and quiet, maybe a little shy. Boy was I wrong about those last two!
Those Who Learn Microeconomics Together Stay Together
We had a really fun freshman floor, and it quickly formed into a large friend group. Rose and I would study or do homework in small groups, attend many of the same parties and events, travel with friends, and generally share the same community. I remember feeling that I always liked when she was around—something about her presence seemed to enhance everything.
She Made The First Move
We talked every day over the summer leading up to senior year. When we returned to school, Rose was so brave and sat me down on September 30, 2016 and asked me out. Our first date was to Thai Country Cafe on the Loop, and we celebrated our graduation later that year with a trip to Thailand.
The Three Ts: TV, Travel, and 'tivities
Our highlights over the next eight years included lots of sports (Frisbee, soccer, and spikeball), trips all around the US (Colorado, North Carolina, NJ/NY, Wisconsin, LA, and St. Louis), and of course our favorite activity: watching TV and eating meals together on the couch.
At Home in Chicago
As much as we enjoyed being long distance for five years—first she was in New Jersey and I was in Chicago, then I moved to Madison while she was living in Chicago, then I moved to Chicago and she moved back to St. Louis—we were thrilled to finally live in the same city in June of 2022 when we moved into our Ravenswood apartment in Chicago. We love our life together… And we’re so glad that you are a part of it :)
