Jenny and Dan met in French class in high school. On the first day of school (Jenny's freshman year and Dan's sophomore year), Jenny's friend introduced Dan to her and explained to Jenny that he was in marching band with her. During that school year, they got closer and became friends. The next year, Jenny joined marching band and got to spend more time with Dan. On September 27, 2012, before marching band practice, Dan asked Jenny to be his girlfriend.

Jenny and Dan were at a family gathering for Christmas Eve and all of Jenny's family and Dan's parents were there. We had just finished playing an entertaining game of Family Feud, when Dan tapped Jenny on the shoulder. When she turned around, he got down on one knee, showed the ring, and asked her to marry him. Everyone was ecstatic and those who missed the moment or did not get to take a picture or video asked Jenny and Dan to reenact the moment.
