Mikey and I weren’t the usual college kids, which is comforting to know we were always on the same page even before meeting. We decided to go to the beautiful island of Grenada in the West Indies to do a summer camp at the medical school. We became friends and clicked right away. I remember our first interaction ever I was walking up a hill on campus and he asks “ are you in this Med school camp as well?” And I just replied “yea” and turned around and kept walking lol Little did I know I was giving my future husband the cold shoulder haha we bonded and became really good friends and continued being friends for 2 years after while he was doing pre-Med at SGU in Grenada and I was finishing up at FSU in Tallahassee, Fl. It wasn’t until I got accepted to medical school in Grenada that Mikey said well before you come to the island I want you to be mine. He then asked me to be his girlfriend and the rest was history. Embarking on the hardest journey I have ever been through with my best friend and love of my life was the best thing I could have ever asked for. I was lucky he was there at the library with me every single day so studying never became a drag. Although some days we would only study and only speak and hang out when we ate outside the library, watching the sunsets together before knocking out another 4-5 hours of studying was literally unforgettable for us. The years we have spent together have been built with love, resilience, respect, and understanding. We spent not only the best but the worst moments together that could have been worse if we didn’t have each other. One of the best days of my life was literally becoming a doctor by your side on the stage as they called us by name one by one “Dr. Tello” and the “Dr. Pillai.” Sitting at graduation holding your hand while we said the Hippocratic oath. Now residency together has been a blast. We are excited for what the future holds for us and we cannot wait to form many more significant memories together.
