The area that the resorts are in is very safe. It has a beautiful recently renovated shopping center in the heart of Playa del Carmen where the resorts are located. Please exercise appropriate precautions as you would when staying in any foreign country.

Question

Are there Mayan Temples near by?

Answer

Yes! It is easy to walk into the town of Playa del Carmen and find a tour company advertising low rates to go to MANY different Mayan Ruin sites. Ruin sites are within 1-4 hours travel time from Playa del Carmen. Here's a list of some of our top picks: 1. Tulum • 45 mins • Beautiful views out to the ocean • You can swim in the ocean • No pyramids to climb 2. Chichen Itza • 2.5 hours • Crowded • Considered one of the wonders of the world • You cannot climb the pyramids 3. Coba (We plan to visit this site on our trip. If you are interested, let's go together) • 45 mins • You CAN climb the pyramids • Ixmoja, the tallest pyramid is 138 ft in height, making it the second tallest Mayan pyramid by only 10 ft! 4. Ek Balam • 2.5 hours • Not Crowded • Can climb pyramids • Off-the-beaten-track, but gloriously preserved 5. Uxmal • 4 hours • You can climb the pyramids • One of the most beautiful ruin sites we have personally ever visited • There is a delicious restaurant on premises

What kind of currency should I bring?
