How We Met

From Online Dating to Oaths for Life

Kara told herself she would never download Tinder, but something moved her one day to take a chance on it. Little did she know that when she swiped right on Dane, the New Yorker, she would be swiping on the love of her life. Meanwhile, Dane was new to Central Washington and was at the least looking for a new friend. "I bet you're really good at KARAoke" was Dane's first message in September of 2020. Kara was hooked. It wasn't long before Kara asked Dane on their first date. Albeit unconventional, she was excited to meet the pun king and ready to break the ice. Dane was sure to woo her and the rest was history, as Kara and Dane's relationship was ignited and they began to share their most precious memories together. They confessed their love for each other on their first Valentine's Day in 2021, while on a snowy getaway in Seattle, and adopted their first fur-baby, Moose, in May of 2021. Shortly thereafter, they moved in together when Kara earned a pharmacy residency position in Walla Walla, because what would have been the point of living two hours apart? Dane wholeheartedly took one for the team as he 1. followed her to Walla Walla while allowing her to chase her dreams, and 2. earned a spot with arguably the most dangerous job in town, the Washington State Penitentiary. Although Dane has since spent a lot of his time behind bars, he manages some freedom that he utilizes as quality time with his small-but-mighty family of three. Kara, Dane, and Moose are excited to become "The Currys" and look forward to bringing both of their families together to celebrate in the same location. They can't wait to get "Curryed" away, and are excitedly beginning their Countdown to Curry!

The Proposal

Making Lemonade from Lemons

It all started with a planned trip to Up State New York… Dane hadn’t visited his family there in almost two years and it would be Kara’s first time visiting them across the country. Since they were going to be gone for one week, they decided to take their dog, Moose. It was Dane’s dream to watch Moose jump off of the dock at his parent’s lake house. The day of their travels came, and Dane and Kara were turned away by an airline employee because they had Moose, even after going through the process of getting him approved to fly with them. "That better not be a live animal," the sassy employee exclaimed. After running to other airline desks and asking about pet requirements as a last-ditch effort to catch a flight to anywhere in New York, they accepted the fact that they wouldn't make it. They were crushed!!! Little did Kara know that Dane had devised a plan to propose to her on the top of a mountain after a beautiful hike, followed by a family reunion and celebration, making it even more devastating. To make lemonade from lemons, Dane had the brilliant idea to take a road trip down to Southern California to visit Kara’s family since their bags (and a ring) were packed, and since they had time off anyway. The first night of their stay Dane was ready to make his move. In the twinkle-lit backyard of Kara’s grandma’s house, already a place with sweet memories, magic was about to unfold. They had just gotten home from dinner, and it was time to feed Moose. As he was eating, Dane asked, “What is that on Moose’s collar?” “Nothing is there...” Kara said. “No, look! Something is there, what is it?” Kara looked again at Moose’s collar, and something sparkly caught her eye. She looked closer, only to find a mini diamond ring on a dog tag that read, “Kara will you marry daddy?” She immediately had butterflies, and slowly turned around to find Dane on one knee. “You’re my best friend, and I love you with all my heart. Will you marry me?” “Of course! Yes!!!” Granny was in on it. In no time, and even with short notice, she brought out the champagne, and a giant ring balloon with matching plates and napkins that read "She Said Yes!" Since then, Dane and Kara have still been on cloud nine. They can't wait to make their love for each other official by becoming man and wife, and are excited to be able to celebrate their big day with everyone!
