Dan and Shay matched on a dating app in November 2017. Shay was in her second year of law school at Penn Law and Dan was working near home at an industrial manufacturing company. The first things they talked about were sports (no surprise) and California. Little did they know that they would be moving into an apartment together in California almost two years later. Shay and Dan became "official" on January 26, 2018. The Eagles won the Super Bowl a few days later (just saying). In May 2019, Shay graduated from law school and moved home to her parents' house in San Ramon, California to study for the bar exam. When the exam was finally over, after a long, grueling summer apart, Dan and Shay finally reunited in Ireland. They had a much-needed adventure, traveling around Dublin and then to Edinburgh, Scotland for several days. They moved to West Hollywood a few weeks later. After a few months in California, the pandemic hit. Dan got a new engineering job and began going into the office as an essential worker, while Shay worked remotely. About a year after they moved to West Hollywood, the couple decided to buy a condo in North Hollywood. They moved into their new place as first-time homeowners in August 2020 and have lived there with their two puppies, Whiskey and Pepper ever since!
On July 24, 2021, Dan asked Shay if she wanted to get breakfast after they dropped the dogs off at the groomers. Thinking nothing of it, Shay agreed. On the way home, Shay noticed Dan was going the wrong route. Instead, he drove to Descanso Gardens, a botanical garden near Pasadena, California. Dan knew that Shay loves flowers and wanted the proposal to happen in a garden filled with them. Dan asked a stranger to take a picture and to Shay's (and the stranger's) great surprise, he got down on one knee and popped the question. She said yes, and the rest is history!
