The most contentious debate of our relationship remains the question of when exactly our first date was... we retroactively said our "anniversary" is February 14, 2017 but our first date can be between September and November 2016, depending on who you ask and their mood that day. The story is far too long to type out here, but the punchline is that we went on about three dates before Leah realized they were dates, some of which she STILL doesn't acknowledge as dates. But, here we are! At least this anniversary won't be debatable.
Some context.... We had already been talking about getting engaged by the time Dan finally asked. Dan had devised a plan to take Leah to Alaska to propose on Mt. Denali, Leah's namesake. Family, friends, and anyone who talked to Leah's mom knew this was the plan, which means it was only so long until it finally got back to her. So, that plan was scuttled. Now, the actual proposal… On Valentine's Day 2023, our 6th "anniversary," we're making dumplings at home and talking about life and our relationship. At this point, Leah had told Dan a lot of ways she DIDN'T want to be proposed to ("If you propose on the jumbotron at a baseball game, not only will I say "no", I will never speak to you again" - Leah, tough crowd), so Dan asked her how she WOULD like to be proposed to. Leah said, "I don't know, nothing crazy, just something intimate and personal to just us" and Dan thought... "Huh... this is one of those moments." So, Dan asked Leah "Well.. can I ask something that may change the course of the evening...?" And Dan did it! He just asked!! And Leah said yes!!! Then, Leah asked if Dan knew where the ring was because we had been gifted Leah's grandmother's ring over the holidays. Dan, obviously, did not know where the ring was, so Leah had to go get the ring that she had hidden (because Dan was keeping it out in the open on his night stand), and the rest is history!
