This is the site of abolitionist John Brown's family homestead, and the place where his remains--along with other members of the crew that raided Harper's Ferry--are interred. For those with an interest in history, this is a must-see spot.
A beautiful place to take a walk through the woods, and to appreciate the amazing falls!
Drive to the top of Mt Whiteface for some top-notch views of Lake Placid and the surrounding mountains and lakes (on clear days, you can see all the way to Vermont!). There is a short but fairly steep climb up a rocky path (with hand railings available) once you've parked near the top; there is also an elevator that can take visitors to the top, though you should call in advance to confirm the elevator is working.
