We met during our first week of law school. I noticed a cute guy walk into our class wearing a flannel shirt. I immediately turned to my friends next to me and said "dibs." After that class I made a point to sit next to him in our legal writing class. I sat down and introduced myself. Little did he know that he would be stuck next to me for longer than a semester.
We met in our second class of law school. I chose to sit in the back row, and while preparing my materials for class, a student I recognized from my previous class sat in the chair directly next to mine. She immediately started a conversation, which led to us discussing our hometowns. I explained I had essentially grown up in California and her in Florida. Then, in a very questionable attempt to be funny, I stated, “Oh, you are from Florida? I’ve heard that’s the poor man’s version of California.” I could tell from her eyes that she was not amused by my comment but nonetheless smiled and gave a polite chuckle. Despite my attempt at humor, we continued talking and discovered that we shared the same schedule for the semester. After that day and for the next three years, we sat together for every lecture, review, study session, and even through BAR preparation classes after graduation. Although I would not recommend insulting someone's hometown, it ended up being one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Corey proposed on June 3, 2022, over by the Ritz Carlton at Salt Creek Beach. We had planned that Teri, Kayla, and I would go to brunch while Greg, Corey, and Owen went golfing to celebrate Owen graduating from high school. As I got ready for a casual brunch, Kayla quickly told me to change because it would ruin the beach photos she wanted to take beforehand. Suspicious. When we got to the beach and walked down, Corey was waiting under an umbrella with a nice little picnic. From that point, it was apparent what was going on here. Corey promptly got on one knee and asked me to enter into a legally binding contract with him, i.e., get married. **slight background, we are both lawyers**. How does a girl say no to that? We popped champagne, and everyone at the beach cheered. It was a perfect day.
