We met in class, both of us only there to study...or so we thought. After class one Thursday evening, a group of classmates attended Cape Town's 'Tuning The Vines' music & wine tasting event. The night ended with us deep in conversation about all things life. At that time, Dana was staying in Joburg and Alfie was Cape Town based. Dana flew back to Joburg only to return to Cape Town a few months later for the next block of classes. Fast forward to a few months later, Dana asked Alfie to 'pick his brain' about social impact & doing good in the community. Alfie offered Dana two options for the meeting, a 15 minute coffee chat or a chat over dinner. Clever guy. Dana chose the dinner option and the rest is history.
We traveled to the Maldives for the diving, and it turned out to be a trip remembered for much more than the diving. Alfie had this back pack he would not put down throughout India, all the way to Finalhou. One night he planned a private dinner on a private island. We were watching the sunset and he said "Come here, I have something to give you". He knelt down and, with tears in her eyes, Dana said "Yes"...and we were engaged.
