The “Meet Someone Twice” Theory

In February 2021, Daly was tucked away in her apartment at Florida State, working on an essay when her phone buzzed. Her friend Aurelia begged her to come to dinner at Relish so she wouldn’t be alone with a group of her boyfriend’s friends. Daly hesitated for a while before finally deciding, why not? That simple choice changed everything, because that was the night Daly and Luke first met. Nothing truly began between them that evening, but sometimes life moves quietly, planting seeds before anyone notices. There is a theory often shared in conversations about fate called the “meet people twice” theory. It suggests that if someone is meant to be in your life, God will find a way to place them before you again. The first meeting may pass by like a whisper, but destiny will always offer a second chance to listen. That is exactly what happened with Daly and Luke. Though Daly stayed in Tallahassee and Luke returned to Orlando, both of them spent the summer thinking about each other. Months later, at an FSU tailgate, Daly even asked Aurelia if Donovan’s friend Luke would ever come back to visit. And in October 2021, he did. This time, everything felt different. There was a spark in the air when Luke hugged Daly and said, “It’s good to see you again.” As they began to talk, the connection came naturally, as if they had been waiting for this moment all along. They wandered side by side through Tallahassee’s College Town, sharing stories, favorite colors, and even debating Luke’s favorite Taylor Swift song, laughing as though they had known each other for years. By the end of the night, numbers were exchanged and a promise was made for a real date the following week in Orlando. That date unfolded like a perfect rom-com. Luke took Daly to dinner, an aquarium, and a wax museum before ending the evening on the Ferris Wheel at Icon Park, where they shared their first kiss while the song Magic by Pilot floated through the speakers. It was the kind of moment that lingers forever, replaying in your heart again and again. Soon after, Daly invited Luke to her favorite holiday at FSU: Halloween. But as the day approached, Luke explained that he couldn’t make it. As his messages grew fewer, Daly wondered if this was the moment she would be left behind. Halloween arrived, and with a pit in her stomach and a message left on delivered, Daly turned to find Luke standing in her doorway, her earring in hand and a sheepish smile on his face. It had all been an elaborate surprise. That night, they officially began their journey together. The year that followed was not simple. Long distance stretched between Tallahassee and Orlando, with miles of highway and tearful goodbyes. Yet every visit, every late-night call, and every countdown until they saw each other again only proved what they already knew: it was all worth it. Eventually, Daly moved to Orlando, and the pair grew stronger than ever until, in true Luke fashion, he surprised Daly at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, where he got down on one knee on Diana Hill. Now they are preparing to say “I do” surrounded by the friends and family who have been part of their story on April 26, 2026, when they are both 26. Looking back, Daly and Luke believe more than ever in the “meet people twice” theory. Sometimes love doesn’t begin with fireworks but with God’s quiet timing. And sometimes, the right people always find their way back to each other.
