Lacy's best friend Jessica moved far far away from Kansas to a place called Port Royal, SC. Lacy made several visits out to see Jess and her family. Meanwhile, Dalton's good friend and fellow Marine Tom called him up and told him about a job opportunity in Beaufort, SC which is a small town next to Port Royal. Dalton jumped at the news and quickly made the move from Michigan. Tom introduced Dalton to Joe (Jessica's husband) and they became fast friends. On one of the many visits to see Jess, while at the Community Beer Garden, Lacy met Dalton for the first time. They spent time talking and playing Uno with the group. Afterwards Lacy thought he was a great guy, but she would never date anyone with a beard like that. Several months later Lacy returned for another visit to see Jess. On this trip Jess and Joe made sure to tell Dalton that Lacy would be in town. After a night of making pizza with his buddy Tom, Dalton made his way to the Community Beer Garden and to Lacy's surprise he had shaved off the beard. Lacy and Dalton spent the evening under the stars, talking through the night, surrounded by trees covered in Spanish moss, with the sound of the ocean in the background. Lacy and Dalton spent the next several months talking and FaceTiming for hours at a time. When it was time for Dalton to renew his apartment lease they both knew this was something special and Dalton made the big move to Kansas... the rest is history!
Dalton and Lacy invited his parents down to celebrate Neewollah with Lacy's parents. Unbeknownst to Lacy Dawn was bringing a family heirloom diamond ring for Dalton to have. Dawn told Dalton he could remove the diamond and pick a new setting, but when Dalton saw the ring for the first time he knew Lacy would love it. That weekend on the drive down to Lacy's parents Dalton turned and looked at his dad and said "I forgot it." If you know Dale he was about to come unglued. Meanwhile in the backseat Lacy and Dawn asked what he had forgotten. Dale, always quick on his feet, said "Oh his gun. We were gonna show your dad." Lacy was none the wiser that Dalton had planned to propose in her hometown, during her favorite holiday, with both sets of parents there. After a great weekend of Neewollah fun and food Lacy and Dalton returned home and settled in to get ready for another week. While Lacy was unpacking their suitcases and planning to start a load of laundry Dalton started asking her silly questions. "Will you love me forever? Do you want to spend the rest of your life with me?" When Lacy turned around to tell him to quit being silly and help with the laundry Dalton was down on one knee. Lacy, still believing that Dalton is joking around, was in total shock when Dalton pulled a small white box from his pocket, opened it to display a beautiful diamond ring, and asked her to marry him. Still reeling in the unbelievable moment Lacy yelled YES! Dalton placed the ring on her finger and it fit perfectly!
