Cocktail attire, please. Guys don't need to wear ties, but, please, no jeans. We're getting married outside, on a mountain, so stilettos and other wobbly heels are highly discouraged. Even if it's a beautiful Colorado day (fingers crossed!), the temperature will dip when the sun goes down. Our ceremony and cocktail hour will be outside, while the reception is in a tent (we'll have heaters), so plan to bring a jacket.
You cannot drive to the ceremony and reception site. We'll be shuttling everyone up the mountain in vans, which will leave from the Lodge at Mountaineer Square. Check out our Travel & Accommodations page for all the info you need.
There is a free parking lot just past the Grand Lodge (the hotel next to the Lodge at Mountaineer Square), and you can leave your car there overnight. If you're staying in town, hop on the free town shuttle. It runs every 20 minutes, from 7:35 a.m. to midnight. More details can be found at http://www.mtnexp.org/schedules-routes/summer/.
We love your kids—we really do—but we want our wedding to be your night off! If you're in need of a babysitter, the Crested Butte Babysitters Coop is your best bet. Scan their website (cbbabysitterscoop.weebly.com) for details, or reach out to Laura Gutierrez at cbbabysitterscoop@gmail.com or (970) 987-4198.
If you're flying into Gunnison, you can take a shuttle from the airport to Crested Butte. Otherwise, you'll need a car to drive to town. Once you arrive, though, you can park your car and leave it. Crested Butte is split between the town and the mountain—they're about 2.5 miles apart—and a free shuttle travels between them. It runs every 20 minutes, from 7:35 a.m. to midnight; more details can be found at http://www.mtnexp.org/schedules-routes/summer/.
Crested Butte is about 4.5 hours southwest of Denver. Google Maps will get you there just fine, but the general directions are: - Take I-70 W to CO-470 E (exit 260) - Exit to U.S. 285 S toward Fairplay (fun fact: that's the town "South Park"is based on) - Drive about 120 miles and then turn right onto U.S. 50 W - About 60 miles later, you'll turn right onto CO-135 N, which you'll follow the rest of the way to Crested Butte
The town of Crested Butte sits at an elevation of almost 9,000 feet, and the mountain even higher. If you don't spend a lot of time at those heights, you will likely feel it. For most people, that just means being a little more out of breath and dehydrated. Take it easy and drink plenty of water (ibuprofen can help as well).
