RED VEIN Haunted House
This is a short 1 hour drive to the outskirts of Richmond - the best haunted house we've EVER been to! Look for a VIP Groupon, too, so you can skip the lines for cheap.
Shenandoah National Park
Bring your America The Beautiful pass with you - *Shenandoah requires a National Parks pass for entrance*! Take a drive through Shenandoah NP on the scenic Skyline Drive, Virginia's National Scenic Byway in the Blue Ridge Mountains for stunning views of the changing leaves. Lots of hikes and lookouts along the way. 60 min. drive north of Charlottesville.
Monticello
Visit the former estate of Thomas Jefferson. Free Gardens and Grounds, Slavery tours offered daily. Plan to spend at least 4 hours here.
Maymont Gardens
Sprawling free botanical garden located in Richmond - though donation is suggested. Beautiful Japanese garden, animal habitats, and for an extra fee, tour the lavish Maymont Mansion and former estate of the Dooleys.
James Monroe's Highland
Estate of Thomas Jefferson's close friend and 5th president of the US, James Monroe. Look for tickets on Groupon, free daily tours.
University of Virginia
Founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson - this is where Ariel works! We recommend touring the Rotunda and checking out the beautiful stained glass in the University Chapel - if it's open.
