Travel Note
Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) is the International Airport in Lisbon. It's about a 30-minute Uber ride to Palacio Ludovice - there are signs at baggage in LIS to direct you to Uber/rideshare pickup (Uber is extremely common and affordable in Lisbon). Or 45 minutes by bus or train, there are also signs to direct you in LIS. You can check bags 3 hours before international flights and 2-2.5 hours before domestic flights. If you have to go through LIS Passport Control, you can use the e-gate / electronic passport line (18+) instead of the manual "all passports" line. For guests traveling with children, LIS prioritizes families, so you'll be able to use the priority passport line and the priority security control (when flying out of LIS). If you want priority security control when leaving LIS and you don't have kids, you can purchase a ticket for that and a pass to the ANA Lounge (3-hour limit).
Travel Note
If you don't want to pay for Global Entry when returning to the U.S., download the MPC app. Prior to flying back, scan your passport(s), complete the propts, and find the MPC line at U.S. Passport Control to skip the crowds. Only 1 person in your group needs to have the app.
Travel Note
Rachel uses the app Airalo to purchase an eSIM when traveling and has had no issues ($5-20, depending on the plan). Luke, however, uses his phone's international plan (which sometimes doesn't work in other parts of Europe). You can buy the eSIM prior to your trip. If you're traveling with someone, forward your eSIM. If you're alone before your flight, type out the eSIM download link. Once at the international airport, connect to Wi-Fi and follow the installation steps. It will take 5-15 minutes to complete the installation. For an Airalo discount, use RACHEL4080 or the link https://airalo.go.link/lTRF6

We paid by credit card and with Euros on our trip to Lisbon. - Grab Euros at a foreign currency exchange. Before we leave for the airport, we go to Foreign Currency Exchange Services in Birmingham (keep your receipt for a no-fee exchange back to USD). - Pay with a credit card that has no foreign fees; Visa and Mastercard are the most commonly used. We love our Delta Amex, but American Express isn't accepted everywhere in Lisbon or across Europe.
Travel Note
- Passport - don't have one? Order one ASAP. Also, make sure it doesn't expire within 3 months after you leave Lisbon/Europe (after July 2027) - Travel outlet converter(s) - Rain gear - Good walking shoes, Lisbon is very hilly - Light jacket for chilly mornings - Sunscreen - Sunglasses - Travel-size tissues (just in case for restrooms, Lisbon, we had no issues, but we can't say the same for other countries)
