What to Expect when Traveling to Isla Holbox

Getting There 1. Fly into Cancun International Airport (CUN): Isla Holbox is located in the state of Quintana Roo, northwest of Cancun. Cancun Airport is the closest airport and your starting point for the trip. 2. Travel to the Chiquilá Ferry Terminal: By Car or Shuttle: The drive from Cancun Airport to Chiquilá takes about two hours. If you travel by car, you should leave it in a parking lot near the Chiquila port because it cannot be taken in any of the ferries that cross to Holbox. We strongly recommend pre-booking a shuttle for convenience. For more information, please visit the FAQ section of our website. 3. Catch the Ferry to Isla Holbox: The ferry ride from Chiquilá to Holbox is quick and scenic, taking about 25-30 minutes, depending on weather conditions. Two ferry companies, Holbox Express Ferry and Los 9 Hermanos, operate frequent trips throughout the day. During the high season, ferries run every 30 minutes from 5:00 AM to 9:30 PM. 4. Arriving on Holbox Island: Once on the island, cars aren’t allowed, keeping the vibe relaxed and eco-friendly. You’ll take a fun ride on a UTV (4-wheeler taxi) to reach the hotel—a unique and memorable part of the journey! Helpful Tips for a Great Trip The journey suits travelers of all ages, from little ones to grandparents. You can buy ferry tickets directly at the Chiquilá pier, and there’s no need to worry about missing a boat, as they run frequently. We can’t wait to celebrate with you in this tropical paradise!
