Michael and Natalie briefly met on November 28, 2019, but it was not until they met again on September 5, 2020 that life changed. Flan. Flan is how they met. For those who do not know about this delectable dessert, flan is a Cuban custard consisting of caramel sauce, sugar, eggs, sweetened condensed milk, and evaporated milk. Flan is the staple of Natalie's childhood and a dessert that reminds her of any birthday or holiday, weekends in Miami gathering with family and friends, and a love for her Cuban culture. On September 5, 2020, Michael was invited to a family gathering at Natalie's parents' house to celebrate the birthday of Natalie's brother, Andrew. This celebration was the first Galvez family gathering in the entire year of 2020 amidst the end of a quarantine and an event that would forever change the lives of Michael and Natalie. At this gathering, Michael was formally introduced to Cuban culture, Galvez family and friend gatherings, and his soon to be wife, Natalie. Michael and Natalie enjoyed the night filled with music, dancing, Cuban food and of course, flan. Michael loved the flan so much that at the end of the night he asked Natalie's parents if he could take some home to his family. As most Cuban parents would do, Natalie's parents prepared Michael a plate with the entire flan to take home. Unknown to Natalie until an hour later, the flan was gone. In search of the flan, Natalie asked her parents where it had been placed. Natalie's father responded with a smirk face: "I gave it to Chucky" (this was Michael's nickname at the time because Natalie could never remember his actual nickname "Cruz"). Natalie raised her eyebrow, as she does when she is unpleased, and Natalie's father told her to resolve it with Chucky. So in typical Natalie fashion, she took it upon herself to send Michael one single text message: "You stole my flan!" - and the rest is history.
