All trauma patients are seen and evaluated in our ED by a joint EM and Trauma team. Our PGY3 covers all trauma airways. EM residents also compose half of the Trauma team who perform the primary and secondary surveys. Procedures are divided between the residents on trauma and the EM residents in the department.
I guess you can wear whatever you like... but we provide three sets of custom black scrubs each year. So you should probably wear those.
Not only is there protected time for all residents in the department, residents are also excused while on PICU, Peds ED, and Trauma rotations. Additionally the ED schedules are altered to allow the most residents possible to attend each month while maintaining appropriate sleep schedules.
Located directly adjacent to I-95 and 476 there is a high volume of motor vehicle accidents. Additionally, we are the only trauma center for a community that continues to struggle with gun violence. We also provide trauma care for any and all industrial exposures and injuries for the plants located along the riverfront nearby. Finally, as the burn center for PA, NJ, and DE in our region we also receive primary and transferred burn trauma from the surrounding area. Over 2400 trauma patients were treated at Crozer in 2019.
Chester PA is an economically disadvantaged and medically underserved small urban community. In addition, we provide care to the inhabitants of the surrounding towns and boroughs as a hospital, and are the only Trauma Center, Burn Center, mental health Crisis Center and tertiary care center in Delaware County (p. 550k+). In addition we are the primary receiving center for a large swath of southern New Jersey.
While we have the full complement of services in our hospital, and the attendings are always on call, there are no other residents in “competing” residencies. When a patient has a fracture or dislocation, we reduce it. When procedural sedation or intubation is required, we do it. When a patient with a facial or complex laceration arrives, so long as you are comfortable with it, you do it.

Crozer-Chester Medical Center located in Upland, PA directly adjacent to Chester, PA is our primary site. With 55,000 visits a year, a BUSY level II trauma center, Stroke Center with endovascular retrieval capacity, Burn Center, level III NICU, Psychiatry Crisis Center, and all resources expected of a tertiary care center. The large majority of your rotations will occur at CCMC. Delaware County Memorial Hospital is a community hospital in West Philadelphia sees about 40,000 patients a year. You will rotate 1 month here in PGY1 and PGY3. Taylor Hospital is a smaller community hospital with about 30,000 visits per year located down the road from Crozer in Ridley Park, PA. You will rotate here 1 block in your PGY2 year.
