FAQs

Question

How are traumas handled?

Answer

All trauma patients are seen and evaluated in our ED by a joint EM and Trauma team. Our PGY3 covers all trauma airways. EM residents also compose half of the Trauma team who perform the primary and secondary surveys. Procedures are divided between the residents on trauma and the EM residents in the department.

Question

What is the Attire?

Answer

I guess you can wear whatever you like... but we provide three sets of custom black scrubs each year. So you should probably wear those.

Question

Protected time for conference?

Answer

Not only is there protected time for all residents in the department, residents are also excused while on PICU, Peds ED, and Trauma rotations. Additionally the ED schedules are altered to allow the most residents possible to attend each month while maintaining appropriate sleep schedules.

Question

What types of trauma do you see?

Answer

Located directly adjacent to I-95 and 476 there is a high volume of motor vehicle accidents. Additionally, we are the only trauma center for a community that continues to struggle with gun violence. We also provide trauma care for any and all industrial exposures and injuries for the plants located along the riverfront nearby. Finally, as the burn center for PA, NJ, and DE in our region we also receive primary and transferred burn trauma from the surrounding area. Over 2400 trauma patients were treated at Crozer in 2019.

Question

What population of patients do you care for?

Answer

Chester PA is an economically disadvantaged and medically underserved small urban community. In addition, we provide care to the inhabitants of the surrounding towns and boroughs as a hospital, and are the only Trauma Center, Burn Center, mental health Crisis Center and tertiary care center in Delaware County (p. 550k+). In addition we are the primary receiving center for a large swath of southern New Jersey.

Question

What do you mean you are an unopposed residency?

Answer

While we have the full complement of services in our hospital, and the attendings are always on call, there are no other residents in “competing” residencies. When a patient has a fracture or dislocation, we reduce it. When procedural sedation or intubation is required, we do it. When a patient with a facial or complex laceration arrives, so long as you are comfortable with it, you do it.

Question
