"Best Groomsman"
Robert has known Mico since high school, and they were roommates for many years. Mico is loyal, artistic, easygoing, and averse to vegetables. Robert has many close friends, but Mico is basically family. He was able to fly to Maryland from his current home in Portland, Oregon and represent Robert's Florida friends and family with pride. Mico coordinated a surprise virtual bachelor party for Robert, and he gave the most moving toast at the wedding dinner; there was not a dry eye in the house.
Katy Vescio
Bridesmaid
Julia has known Katy since the 7th grade. She is warm, funny, reliable, and cries at all poignant moments. She helped coordinate Julia's bridal shower from upstate New York when restrictions kept her from being there in person, was a sounding board and cheerleader throughout all kinds of wedding decisions, and just came through in the clutch, like always.
Melissa Martin
Bridesmaid
Julia has known Melissa since 8th grade. She is genuine, exuberant, silly, and doesn't know a stranger. Melissa hosted Julia's bridal shower, made sure all wedding events were thoroughly documented for posterity (and the internet), went the extra mile to make sure they were memorable and special, and was almost as excited for this wedding as Julia and Robert.
Maria Bussabarger
Bridesmaid
Julia and Maria went to college together and were roommates for two years. Maria is thoughtful, humble, loving, and never takes herself too seriously. Even though she couldn't be there in person, Maria helped plan the bridal shower and favors from over 600 miles away and took part in the festivities as much as possible, even joining the wedding party virtually from Sarah's phone. She's never let distance or the craziness of raising four boys stop her from being a faithful friend.
Sarah Escalera
Bridesmaid
Julia met Sarah through church in 2013. She is wise, inquisitive, brave, and loves diving into new things. Julia and Sarah laughed and commiserated through years of singleness until each started dating her Mr. Right within a few months of each other. Sarah provided emotional, spiritual, and practical support for Julia even as she was busy planning her own wedding, because she is just that kind of friend. She also held up her phone throughout the wedding so Maria could participate remotely!
Jamal Fletcher
Reception Emcee
Robert met Jamal and his wife, Leah, when he moved in across the hall from them in 2018, and they became fast friends. Jamal is compassionate, gregarious, dedicated, and loves a nice nap. Jamal always has a good word to share from the heart, balanced with a great sense of humor. The first question he asked upon meeting Julia was, "What are your intentions with our Robert?!" He is a true friend and the perfect person to serve as emcee for our reception.
