Stroll Through SRU - Crete's Alma Mater!
Take a peaceful walk through the beautiful Salve Regina University campus, nestled along Newport's iconic Cliff Walk. With ocean views, sweeping lawns, and historic buildings like Ochre Court and McAuley Hall, it’s one of the most scenic spots in town — and it holds a special place in my heart, as it’s my alma mater! Whether you're admiring the coastal views or just looking for a quiet stroll, the campus is open to the public and offers a perfect blend of Newport charm, history, and natural beauty.
Fort Adams State Park
Situated at the mouth of Newport Harbor, Fort Adams State Park offers panoramic views of Narragansett Bay. Visitors can explore the historic fort through guided or self-guided tours, stroll along the 2.5-mile Bay Walk, or enjoy picnicking and recreational activities. This park also hosts the annual City of Newport Fireworks Show. This year, it will be held on Friday, July 4. Doors Open: 6:00 pm Live Music: 6:30 – 9:00 pm Fireworks: 9:15 pm
Ocean Drive
For those who prefer to stay on land, Newport's Ocean Drive offers a breathtaking 10-mile coastal route that showcases the city's natural beauty and historic landmarks. Starting just off historic Bellevue Avenue, this scenic drive provides uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean, Gilded Age mansions, and tranquil parks.
Newport Mansions
Newport's Gilded Age mansions offer a glimpse into the opulent lifestyles of America's elite. Managed by the Preservation Society of Newport County, these estates are open to the public for guided and self-guided tours. Notable mansions include: The Breakers Marble House Rosecliff The Elms There are a total of 11 estates you can tour!
International Tennis Hall of Fame
Located in the heart of Newport, the International Tennis Hall of Fame celebrates the sport's rich history. The museum features interactive exhibits, memorabilia, and the historic grass courts where the Hall of Fame Open is held annually.
Rum Runner II
Step back in time and experience Newport from the water on the Rum Runner II, a 58-foot classic motor yacht built in 1929 during Prohibition. Originally designed for rum-running, this beautifully restored vessel offers a unique perspective of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. Departing from Bannister’s Wharf in downtown Newport, the yacht accommodates up to 49 passengers, making it ideal for both intimate and group outings.
