Getting to Amsterdam

We recommend flying into Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) on Tuesday, June 3rd, or Wednesday, June 4th if you'd like some time to explore Amsterdam before our wedding! From Schiphol Airport, you can easily take a train to Amsterdam Centraal. Train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal: • Time: ~15-20 minutes • Cost: ~€5.70 (one way) Trains run frequently (every 10-15 minutes). **No car rental is needed for this trip! The Netherlands is incredibly bike- and train-friendly, and you’ll be able to walk, bike, or use public transit everywhere with ease. Summer is the high season in Amsterdam. Please make your arrangements as soon as possible for the best rates and availability!

Getting to Leiden (Friday, June 6th)

On Friday morning, make your way to Amsterdam Centraal Station to catch a train to Leiden Centraal Station. The train ride is quick, convenient, and a great way to experience traveling like a local in the Netherlands! Train from Amsterdam Centraal to Leiden Centraal: • Travel Time: ~35 minutes • Cost: ~€11.50 (one way) • Frequency: Trains run every 10 minutes, so you won’t have to worry about missing one. HOW TO BUY YOUR TICKET: You can buy your ticket directly at Amsterdam Centraal Station: • Ticket Machines: Available throughout the station, they have English options and are easy to use. • Ticket Counter: If you prefer assistance, head to the staffed ticket desk. There are plenty of signs in English and lots of friendly staff or other travelers around who can help if you have questions. Look for trains heading toward The Hague (Den Haag) or Rotterdam, as these often stop in Leiden. Check the screens for the correct platform number. ARRIVAL IN LEIDEN: Once you arrive at Leiden Centraal, you’ll find the station is centrally located and close to our recommended hotel. From here, you can easily walk, bike, or take a taxi to your accommodations. Enjoy the scenic train journey—it’s a perfect way to see some of the Dutch countryside as you travel!

Things to Do in Leiden

Before the wedding events in the evening, take some time to explore the picturesque and historic city of Leiden. This beautiful town holds a special place in Megan's heart—she studied abroad here in 2013, and it’s such a joy to share it with you all 12 years later. The charming canals, vibrant history, and peaceful atmosphere make it truly unique, and we're so excited for you to experience it for yourselves! PLACES TO EXPLORE (walk or bike): • Visit the Hortus Botanicus: One of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, filled with lush greenery and historic significance. • Leiden’s Windmills: Snap photos of traditional Dutch windmills, like the iconic Molen de Valk, which also houses a small museum. • Stroll Along the Canals: Enjoy a leisurely walk through Leiden’s historic city center, lined with cozy cafés and boutiques. • Leiden Museums: Dive into history and culture with stops at the National Museum of Antiquities (archaeology) or the Museum of Natural History. This charming little town made such a big impact on me, and it makes my heart happy to think of you all discovering its beauty too!
