Spencer and I met at a barbecue in the summer of 2018. I had just moved to Pasadena. I didn’t know many people, and was definitely feeling a bit awkward. As I am sitting on my blanket in the grass, minding my own business, Spencer waltzed right up. Our friend introduced us, we exchanged pleasantries, and with all the confidence in the world he sat down on my blanket. I sized him up a bit.. His tattoos were out, he had cauliflower ear, and his outfit choice was a little questionable. But, everything else about him screamed kind, inquisitive, caring and he definitely knew how to make me smile. We spent the afternoon in the grass talking and I knew he was meant to be in my life. I was already smitten. Looking back, that summer was filled with so much fun. We spent a lot of time together and truly became the best of friends. As a LA native, Spencer became my personal tour guide. He took me to Dodger & Laker games, we hiked Griffith Park, we rode bikes in Manhattan beach, we ate tacos on top of his car, and most of all we laughed. He was easy to be with. He made me feel safe, and after all we had both been through, he was teaching me how to love again. That September, outside of yoga one day, I “punked” Spencer into being my boyfriend (As he would say.) I didn’t give him the option, I let him know “You are my boyfriend.” He looked at me, smiled, but he didn’t hesitate to agree. It was clear we had a special bond. Our friends would say “We are coming to your wedding one day.” And it turns out they were right. Some people may think it’s silly, but I knew Spencer was my person the moment I met him. I believe God sat him down on my blanket that day. Blessed is an understatement when I think about the beautiful life we are building together and I am honored I get to be his WIFE! 7 years with him has flown by and I am so lucky we still have a lifetime to go. Cheers bubba, I love you!!!
