Courtney and Khalliyah met at church when they were a part of the same cell group. A cell group is where you would meet every Monday with fellow members of the church and other believers and pray, testify, discuss the word that was preached the Sunday before, and so much more! At the time the cell groups were virtual via zoom, so they would notice each other on camera but never saw each other in person. In fact, Courtney thought that Khalliyah lived out of town because they never actually ran into each other in service. It wasn’t until one Sunday, as Khalliyah was walking to her car, that Courtney spotted her and realized who she was, the same girl from the cell group. He noticed that there was just this glow around her and from that moment, he was determined to get to know her. Courtney was led to message Khalliyah in that same week to inform her that he noticed her at church and how beautiful she was. That conversation flowed effortlessly and eventually numbers were exchanged so that the two could communicate further. The first night on the phone, the two talked literally all night even to the point where they realized they fell asleep on the phone together. It felt fresh and was an undeniable connection. From that first night on the phone, it was evident that the two wanted to pursue what was divinely orchestrated, and that’s when their journey started.

It was September 21, 2025, one year after Courtney asked Khalliyah to be his girlfriend. The two were already planning to celebrate their one year anniversary together by going to a nice restaurant after church. After the restaurant there was going to be a nice photoshoot set up for the two, or so Khalliyah thought! After the restaurant, Courtney informed Khalliyah that before their photoshoot that he wanted to give her a gift for their anniversary. He said that the gift was pretty big and that if he got it delivered to his home, it would’ve been easily noticed by Khalliyah. Instead the “gift” was delivered to Khalliyah’s mom house. When the two arrived to her mom’s house, the door was opened to the best gift she could’ve been given that day. Family and friends standing there smiling, as Courtney and Khalliyah walked into the moment that would be the start of forever—the proposal!
