The Wedding Website of Courtney Buckley and James Cornell
Here are helpful tips when preparing to travel to Ireland. If you have any other questions, please reach out to Courtney/James at courtneybuckley@cox.net and jcornell3@gmail.com.
Question

What is the currency in Ireland?

Answer

The currency in Ireland is Euro. Note that the neighboring country, Northern Ireland is Pounds since it is a part of the UK. We highly suggest ordering Euros from your local bank or currency exchange place for the best Dollar to Euro rate. Currency exchange is available at the airport but at a higher exchange rate. You can also get Euros from any ATMs around Ireland, however your bank will likely charge you a small fee + the current exchange rate. The exchange rate ebbs and flows, but the average rate is 1 Euro = 1.07 Dollar.

Question

What is the weather like in Ireland during May?

Answer

As someone who lived in Ireland from January to May, I can safely say you should expect some sort of rain every day. It could rain for 30 minutes and then be beautiful clear skies the rest of the day. The rain usually never lasts long and leaves beautiful rainbows like you've never seen before. Day time temps will be in the mid 60s F and night time temps will be in the mid 50s F. May is one of the best times to visit Ireland because the average rain fall is not too high, the days are long (9:30pm sunset) and the temperature begins to warm up.

Question

What is the time difference between Ireland and the US?

Answer

Ireland is 8 hours ahead of the US Pacific time - so 12 noon in Los Angeles is 8 pm in Ireland. Ireland is 6 hours ahead of the US Central time - so 12 noon in Chicago is 6 pm in Ireland.

Question

Any packing tips?

Answer

We recommend bringing tennis shoes to explore the 1,100-acre Carton House Estate. Umbrellas will be provided by the Carton House Estate. Packing a rain jacket wouldn't hurt! Please pack an outlet adapter so you can charge your devices as they do not have the same outlets as the US. Ladies, please be mindful of packing your straighteners/curling tools as the standard voltage and frequency in Europe is different from that in the United States. Speaking from experience, your straightener may not be able to handle the higher voltage and lower frequency, which could result in damage to the device. You can either buy a voltage converter or purchase a straighter at Boots (their version of CVS/Sephora).

Here are recommendations provided by our planner for hair and makeup if you are interested.
