We were both students at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and met at a campus event called “A Taste of the Caribbean.” The music was loud, the vibes were right, and we ended up dancing together like we’d known each other forever. Something just clicked between us, and from that moment on, we were inseparable. Who knew a campus dance floor would lead us here?

Our proposal story is one for the books! We’d been touring wedding venues together and instantly fell in love with Main Street Ballroom—it just felt like the place. But I didn’t want to reserve it until we were officially engaged. Jamal had other plans. He secretly coordinated with the venue owner and her mother to set up the perfect surprise. They called me, saying someone else was interested in our date and that we’d need to come over immediately to lock it in. Luckily, I was already nearby (thanks to my best friend/moh, who was totally in on it). When I rushed over, instead of paperwork, Jamal was waiting there to propose—and the rest is history!
