Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon was created by progressive erosion by flowing water from glaciers through the rocks over a long period of time, some say 9000 years ago. It is not far away from the main ring road. Once there, you can park the car and walk along the canyon all the way to the top. The hike is 1 mile to the top.
Famous beach in Iceland, framed by dramatic basalt cliffs and geometric columns. The black sand is from ground down volcanic rocks. The geometric columns in the rock are subject of local folklore. Legend has it that the stacks are actually trolls who were turned into stone!
Beautiful waterfall you can walk behind for the perfect shot.
52 km from Reykjavík city center (approx. 45 minutes) We went here the Christmas before we got engaged! Cotey chickened out on her polar plunge into the sea.
Located on a mountain above Vik black sands beach.
Take a ferry and visit Vestmannaeyjar (Westman) Islands. You will pass some beautiful rocks that pop out of the sea and the "loneliest house in the world". There is also great Airbnbs and restaurants on the island!
Another beautiful waterfall - about 15 minutes further from Seljalandsfoss.
A bit further away and located in east Iceland but spectacular.
