Our first date was very different from a normal first date. It was 2020, COVID year, and after many calls and messages, we decided to be brave and go out to dinner to Gloria’s, one of the few open restaurants in Austin. Meeting was unique but fun. We initially didn’t know how to greet each other, shaking hands and hugging was not safe. We assumed we were happy and smiling to finally meet in person, but it was hard to see as we were both wearing face masks. Talking was tough, as we had all the servers around us waiting to order as we were the only table in the restaurant. But even with all these challenges, we had an amazing night and learned a lot from each other. COVID didn’t stop us from finding time to be together. We watched a movie in a drive-in theater (we don’t remember the movie as we spent more time talking than watching it), played many board games (Jose is not good at Jenga), did a picnic at an Austin park, traveled to San Antonio, and shared many hours with our friends. Even after all these activities, we knew we really love each other when we agreed to do the unthinkable at that time … Jose agreed to take dance lessons and Martha agreed to attend her first (didn’t know more will come) Dallas Cowboys game. We got engaged on August 2022 on an amazing trip to Honolulu, Hawaii and since then we have been looking forward to celebrating with all of you!
