The story of our love begins in the small town of Sylacauga, Alabama where we both grew up; in a little restaurant known as Peking Garden. Melissa, who's family owns the place, was the cashier one day when random local boy came in looking for work. After her whole family examined him closely, they decided that he would be a good fit. Corey and Melissa would go on to work together for years, developing a close friendship and even going to prom together as friends! That friendship would soon blossom into a full fledged love for each other that would go on to last through an entire 6 year military career, 4 years of college, and now 3 more years of living as full fledged adults in Houston, Texas and traveling the world together! Our love spanning over almost a decade, has been tried, tested, and has overcome all obstacles one could imagine! Our shared hobbies include nature, biking, hiking, traveling, and FOOD! Our personalities have always complemented well. We are introverts and children at heart, but Melissa is super logical and goal oriented, and I am empathetic and thoughtful. We always make a good team in everything that we do together. On a typical day when we are not working, you can find us biking, having Brunch at one of our favorite Houston restaurants, or trying to beat each other at Video Games. So here's to a future of us! And we cherish and welcome all those who have been with us on this journey!
Following Pinterest and some travel websites led us to put Havasupai Falls in Grand Canyon as one of our bucket list places to visit. The picturesque clear blue water and the remoteness of the place was just so alluring. In June of 2018, we called multiple times to try and secure a 2019 reservation to Havasupai. We finally got through after hundreds of calls that night and booked our trip for the following year. Havasupai Village can only be reached after hiking 10 miles in the Grand Canyon. The 10 mile hike was long, tiring, but absolutely beautiful. We spent our first days at the first waterfall, Havusupai falls. The next few days, we decided to venture toward the other falls. Mooney Falls is the tallest of all the waterfalls in the Havasupai area and the most roaring and magnificent. To reach Mooney Falls, we had to maneuver through ladders, ropes, tight spaces, caves and descend down. One of the days during our trip, we hiked 5 miles past Mooney falls to enjoy Beaver Falls where the water pooled and flowed much more slowly and was better for swimming. On the way back from our long and treacherous hike, Corey proposed in front of one of the magnificent falls which made for a stunning memory and, of course, the answer was yes. It was such a beautiful and picturesque moment that we will cherish forever. We had a blast during our entire Havasupai stay, but this made the trip even more memorable as we move forward in our lives together!
Love is patient, but we are not. In the midst of COVID-19, we postponed our wedding. We still were able to have a beautiful moment in mountains at Glacier National Park. However, we are still very excited to celebrate with you all!
