Playa Viva is a boutique eco-resort in the town of Juluchuca, about 40-60 minutes south of Zihuatanejo in Mexico. We love Playa Viva for its dedication to sustainability, immersion in nature, tranquil atmosphere, incredible food, and of course baby turtle sightings! It's unlike any place we've ever been, and we can't wait to start this next chapter of our lives at a such a special place with the people we love most! Given how immersed in nature Playa Viva is, it can be a little tricky to find. We recommend using this link for an accurate maps location: http://bit.ly/3KFClot
We recommend flying into Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International airport (code: ZIH). If you are staying at Playa Viva or ZAIA, they will provide transportation to the hotel from the airport. If you are staying at MUSA, please reach out to them directly to arrange airport transportation. If you are staying in Zihuatanejo, please consult your accommodation on if they provide a shuttle to and from the airport.
While it's not necessary if you are staying at Playa Viva or MUSA, you can rent a car at the airport. There also taxis stationed at the airport and in Zihuatanejo. If you need a taxi for any reason during the weekend from MUSA or Playa Viva, please work with your respective hotel to arrange as you will be in a more remote area. For the welcome dinner on Friday and wedding events on Saturday, there will be a shuttle from MUSA to Playa Viva provided. Details and times will be shared closer to weekend and upon arrival. MUSA can arrange taxis for those attending brunch on Sunday. We can make recommendations for transportation services for those staying in Zihuatanejo, and may provide a shuttle depending on RSVPs.
There are several options for the weekend - Playa Viva and MUSA (see the website links on the travel page). Playa Viva is for you if you want walking access to all wedding events, all inclusive meals (alcohol excluded), morning yoga, and the potential for early morning baby turtle releases. As an eco resort, Playa Viva's 20 rooms are open air and do not have A/C (it does cool down quite a bit at night). Please note the rooms vary in layout and capacity, so the Playa Viva team can help make a room recommendation based on your party size. These rooms will fill up quickly so we recommend reaching out early! MUSA is a ten minute drive down the road from Playa Viva. If the lack of A/C is not for you - we recommend staying at MUSA. We have a room block with options for two queen beds, one king bed, or two bedrooms. MUSA also has other accommodation types, including houses for bigger groups, that aren't a part of the room block but you can book if available. MUSA is not all inclusive but has a restaurant on site. Lastly, we recommend Playa Viva if you will be staying for 3 nights (Nov 5-8) and MUSA if you are planning to stay for 2 nights (Nov 6-8). To book at Playa Viva, please email Reservations@PlayaViva.com and their team will take care of you! Please share any room requests with them, and the Playa Viva team will provide recommendations based on availability and party size. To book at MUSA, please book directly on their website using code NEVERS2026 (direct link available on the travel page). You can also reach out to resy@findmusa.mx if you have questions on the accommodation options. If you aren't sure what the best option is - reach out to us and we can help!
Yes, there are a few options for homes for rent in the area and many options in Zihuatanejo. Playa Viva is in a remote area, so there aren't many Airbnbs nearby but we do have contacts with a few local houses available for rent. The main house available is ZAIA (link on the travel page), which can accommodate up to 18 guests, has air conditioning, provides airport transportation, and staff that can provide farm-to-table styles meals. If you are interested in this option, please reach out to Sav and Corey. You are also welcome to book accommodations in Zihuatanejo at a hotel or Airbnb - there are many options! Please note if you do, you will need to coordinate your transportation to and from the wedding events as shuttles are not being provided (although we are happy to provide recommendations).
Expect it to be hot and humid - ranging from about 70-90 degrees. We recommend loose clothing with breathable fabrics and don't forget sun protection and bug repellent.
For the welcome dinner, ceremony, and reception we encourage semi-formal attire - bright colors especially welcome. For Sunday brunch, there is no dress code - come ready to eat, lounge, and jump in the pool!
Your save the date and invitation will let you know if you have a plus one and all kids are welcome to attend the wedding weekend!
Zihuatanejo is a well-known vacation spot for international travelers. The town has a relaxed, small-town atmosphere and relies heavily on tourism, so visitor areas are generally very welcoming. Playa Viva is in a private, remote area and their team takes a variety of precautions to ensure the safety of their guests. You can read more about the safety of the area and Playa Viva's precautions here: https://www.playaviva.com/safety. Like traveling anywhere, it’s always smart to take normal precautions: stay aware of your surroundings, use reputable transportation, and keep valuables secure. Sav and Corey recognize that recent current events and ongoing perceptions of Mexico might raise your concern when traveling for our wedding. We want to assure you we are are monitoring the situation and are in consistent communication with Playa Viva. If you are uncomfortable traveling to Mexico for any reason, while your presence will be greatly missed, know that we deeply understand and look forward to celebrating our marriage with you at another time.
