One of the most popular traditions during a New Orleans Weddings is the famous second line parade, which signifies the start of a new beginning for the bride and groom. A brass band leads the bridal party and the guests in two parts – The first line is the brass band and the newlyweds. The newly married couple leads the second line holding parasols, while the guest join in the celebration to make up the “second line”. The guests form a line behind the band, dancing with the newly married couple to lively music with handkerchiefs in hand. The Williams Wedding will conclude with a traditional second line from the reception through the historic streets of downtown New Orleans. Due to the close proximity of the reception to the recommended hotels and the French Quarter, you can second line with the group then continue walking until you reach your hotel. There will be pedicabs in the area if you would like to use that mode of transportation.
