MEET THE COUPLE

Ivy Joy Moffett was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. At the age of 18, Ivy moved to Chicago to attend DePaul University. Post Undergraduate and Master’s Program, Ivy decided to remain in Chicago to begin her professional career within the insurance industry. Corey Demon Williams is a native of Chicago. Born and raised on the Westside, Corey is the definition of a Renaissance Man. He is the successful CEO and Creative Director of GREVYI Clothing, an established celebrity fashion stylist, a children’s author and actor.

HOW WE MET

Ivy’s Version “Corey and I met for the first time July 12th 2015. I am a huge fan of the rapper, Wale, and he was scheduled for a club appearance at Shrine Nightclub that night. While it was not my norm to be going out on a Sunday, I could not miss the chance to see one of my favorite artist plus I lived just 2 blocks from the venue. As I walked up to the club with my best friend, Alex D. (Maid of Honor), I noticed a handsome man managing the door. While I internally acknowledged he was cute, I provided my ID, got my pursed checked and proceeded into the club as normal. As I walked in, I noticed that there was absolutely no one in the venue, other than security and the bartenders. Shrine was charging $20 for absolutely disgusting cocktails, so Alex and I quickly decided that we should go back home to drink our free alcohol and eat some snacks. I am not a person to hide the truth so I politely asked the security guard if we could leave out to run home. The security guard motioned to Corey and told us that we would have to ask him. I proceeded to ask Corey if it would be good if we stepped away to get some snacks and return in an hour. While he was completely thrown off by my questions and looked at me and Alex as if we were completely crazy, he obliged. We returned an hour later, where we were escorted in and Corey later asked me for my phone number. We have been inseparable ever since!” Corey’s Version I met Joy the summer of 2015- I didn’t meet Ivy until like 6 months after. She definitely didn’t give me her real name when we initially met. Crazy right? She was all up on a brother straight lying but it’s cool back to my story…. I was managing the door at Shrine Nightclub in Chicago- the night Wale was doing an appearance. It was pretty light and chill. Out of nowhere, I see Joy (not Ivy) pigeon toed self walking up! Man, her walk was so sexy to me. Her skin was amazing, but it felt like I knew her from somewhere and that got me! (I later found out that we locked eyes at Lumen Nightclub one night, but didn’t say anything to each other). She walked in, and at that point, not too many words were exchanged as I was fake shy at first! A little while later her and her friend, Alex, come back out! They started talking to my boy, Obi, who was working the door asking could they leave to go get a snack and come back! I thought, “a damn snack?? Who actually says that out loud?” Obi tells her that it would be up to my discretion if I would allow that! Of course, I said it was cool, but she needed to come to me when she returned to the club. They come back a little later. Inside, there were a couple of guys who were friends of her ex being real weird, so we were unable to talk like we both wanted to, therefore, we exchanged numbers to chat later. She knew the vibes and now we are here!!

THE PROPOSAL

In one of Corey’s visits to New Orleans, Ivy’s father, James, told a story about his engagement to Ivy’s mom. He explained how he had asked her mom to marry him at a Jackson 5 concert! Corey thought this was an amazing idea! As the idea of incorporating how Ivy and Corey met and Corey’s desire to pay homage to Ivy’s father by following in his footsteps, Corey began to put a plan in motion. Wale was set to perform at the House of Blues in Chicago 3 days before Ivy’s birthday. Corey made a few calls and worked with HustleSimmons and DJ Money to help bring his vision to light— and that they did! On a stage in front of the artist that brought the couple together and both of their families, Corey took a knee and executed on one his most heartfelt acts of love!
