Castle in the Clouds

Approximately 40 minutes from Plymouth is the Castle in the Clouds. After earning his fortune in the shoe industry at the turn of the 20th century, Tom Plant focused his attention on the Ossipee Mountains in Moultonborough, New Hampshire. In 1913-1914, Tom and his wife Olive built a unique and stunning country estate, which they called Lucknow. The property spanned 6,300 acres and featured a 16-room Arts and Crafts mansion, stable and six car garage, two gate houses, a greenhouse, a golf course and tennis court, a man-made lake, a boathouse on Lake Winnipesaukee, and miles of carriage and bridle trails. For several years the Plants enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle at Lucknow, with state-of-the-art amenities, beautiful hand-made furnishings, and a large staff to run the estate.

The Loon Center

The Sanctuary is comprised of 200 acres of upland forests, marshes, ponds, clear-running streams and over 5,000 feet of pristine shoreline on Lake Winnipesaukee, one of the largest remaining areas of natural shoreline on the lake. These diverse habitats make this sanctuary home to a wide host of plant and animal species. Two walking trails wind their way through the Sanctuary.

The Flume Gorge

The Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. The walls of Conway granite rise to a height of 70 to 90 feet and are 12 to 20 feet apart. The Flume Trail is a 2-mile loop starting at the check-in booths located in front of the Flume Building. The Short Trail/Rim Path is closed and the only option is to complete the full 2 mile loop. The entire loop takes approximately 1.5 hours and finishes at the Flume Building. The walk includes uphill walking and lots of stairs. The boardwalk allows you to look closely at the growth of flowers, ferns and mosses found here.

Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway

New Hampshire's only Aerial Tramway and North America's first! A cable car brings visitors to the 4,080-foot summit of Cannon Mountain in under ten minutes. On a clear day, you can see the mountains of four states and Canada! At the summit, you'll find spectacular scenic walking paths, a 360 degree observation deck, a cafe and restrooms. Cafe hours are currently 9am-4pm.

Kancamagus Scenic Byway

The Kancamagus Highway is a 34.5 mile scenic drive along NH's Rt. 112 in Northern New Hampshire that is well known as one of the best Fall Foliage viewing areas in the country. The Kancamagus Highway is now designated an American Scenic Byway for its rich history, aesthetic beauty and culture. The Kancamagus Scenic Byway takes you through a path cut through the White Mountain National Forest with breathtaking views of the White Mountains, the Swift River, Sabbaday Falls, Lower Falls and Rocky Gorge. The Kanc takes you to an elevation of just under 3,000 feet at its highest point at Kancamagus Pass on the flank of Mt. Kancamagus near Lincoln, NH.

Polar Caves Park

ifty thousand years ago, a continental glacier moved southward over New Hampshire. As the ice sheet thawed, great blocks of granite fell from Hawk's Cliff. These massive granite blocks created a series of caves and passageways which you can come and explore. The park's name refers to the "polar" breath that emanates from the caves even on the hottest summer day. Temperature differences between the air above ground and in the caves are why it's a good idea to review our suggested attire. Polar Caves offers a welcome environment that allows you to explore at your own pace, to experience nature and plug into your inner explorer.

Sabbaday Falls

Sabbaday Falls is rich in history, beauty and the easy hike make it one of the most visited waterfalls in the state. The path to Sabbaday Falls is accessible for those with disabilities. Be sure to take the time to read the informational postings along the trail. Sabbaday Falls has a gravel pathway that leads you to the edges of the falls. Swimming is not allowed at Sabbaday Falls. Picnic area and bathrooms located near parking area. The falls has a 45′ total drop with handmade wooden rails and stairways surrounding one side of the falls. This can be a great place for photos, engagement photos, wedding photos, senior photos or scenic photos.
