FAQs

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Please RSVP by August 28th, 2023 in the specific “RSVP” tab so that we can plan accordingly.

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

Yes, we are asking that our guests follow a semi-formal dress code. Encouraged colors: Solid pastel colors, green, pink, tan, and black. Colors to avoid: white, cream, ivory, neon colors, bold patterns. For women: below-the-knee dress or a dressy skirt and top. An elegant pantsuit is also appropriate. Floor-length gowns should be a avoided. Pair with heels, nice wedges, or formal flats. For men: A dress shirt and slacks with dress shoes, ties are encouraged but not mandatory.

Question

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The ceremony will be outside on a covered deck area and the reception will be indoors. During the reception you will be able to go outside to the deck area and the bar will be located outdoors.

Question

What time should I arrive?

Answer

Please arrive around 4:45 pm as you will need to shuttle to the treehouse and there may be a wait. We ask that guest be seated by 5:00 pm as we would like to promptly start the ceremony at 5:15 pm.

Question

Can I take photos/videos during the ceremony?

Answer

No, we are doing an “unplugged” ceremony, so we ask that you please silence and put your phones away during that time. Your photo taking skills will be encouraged during the reception.

Question

Where do I park and how do I get to the treehouse?

Answer

Given the uniqueness of the Bissell Tree House location, transportation service is required to and from the Bissell Tree House via Shuttle or Funicular. The Funicular is never a guaranteed mode of transportation and may be unavailable due to unforeseen weather or mechanical related concerns. The Funicular is a type of rail car used to transport people from the parking lot to the highest point of the zoo. John Ball Zoo does not provide reserved parking for event guests. All parking lots will remain open to public park and Zoo guests at any time. Parking is complimentary for event guests in any available John Ball Zoo parking areas.

Question

What type of food will be served?

Answer

We have decided to do a Buffet style dinner. We will have a variety of comfort foods catered through Forty Acres Soul Kitchen | Cognac Bar in Grand Rapids.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Of course! We will have activities set up and we will also have some fun hands on experiences with a few of the zoo animals!

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

Unfortunately, due to the size of the venue we cannot accommodate any extra guests. If the invite was not addressed to you with an additional guest, then you are unable to bring one. Please reach out to Connor or Alexia with any questions regarding this.

Question

Will there be assigned seating?

Answer

No, we will not have assigned seats for the ceremony or reception. Please sit wherever you’d like.

Question

Who do I reach out to if I have more questions?

Answer

You can reach out to Alexia at (616) 681-1776 or Connor at (616) 322-5116
