Start on the Manhattan side, and take a leisurely stroll across to Brooklyn. From there, enjoy the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade where there are parks and restaurants, plus shopping at Empire Stores. For anyone with little ones, check out the beautifully restored Jane's Carousel for a ride, then walk over to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. If you're up for a further adventure, you can take the ferry which goes to Wall Street or continue on to Governor's Island where you can picnic, play, bike, and explore an old fort.
Start by exploring Chelsea Market, an adorable, local mecca for eating and shopping. Then follow the signs over to the High Line around 14th St & 10th Ave. Enjoy this beautiful strolling park that is built on top of a historic elevated rail line. Pause on the benches for people watching, admire the sculptures, and cool down with the occasional ice cream cart. For museum lovers, the Whitney is also nearby!
Our favorite pizza place in the city. It's not fancy. But the paper thin crust is out of this world! We always split a half plain / half Tres Fuegos (it's like a taco on a pizza!) large pie with a pitcher of Stella. Experience a real New York pizza, then explore the neighborhood. It's a 10 - 15 minute walk to Union Square and Madison Square Park. Don't forget to see the Flatiron Building, then get lost in Eataly's amazing markets. And of course, there is a Shake Shack nearby too!
Amazing Korean soul food. This critically acclaimed, trendy spot is just a few minutes walk to the heart of K town (Koreatown). After a hearty lunch here, you should explore the Korean pastries, skin care boutiques, and karaoke bars on 32nd Street between 5th & 6th Aves. Then find an authentic Korean BBQ experience to end your night.
Our secret beach. You may need a car or bike to get there. Just route directions to Jacob Riis Park Beach, then walk 10 - 20 minutes away from the crowd. It's a trek, but worth it. It's beautiful, warm, secluded, and a little hipster. We've seen so many incredible creatures, like tiny sharks, sting rays, wild dolphins, and a million baby crabs!
We love hiking and art museums, so this huge 1,972-acre sculpture park has always been a favorite day trip. It's just an hour from the city, and also very close proximity to a short and lovely 3-mile hike on Storm King Mountain. A week after we got engaged, we went for a hike, and at the top of the mountain, he got down on one knee and proposed again! Just for funsies!
