There are multiple ways to get to Pico Island. The most ideal option is to find a flight straight to the only airport on the island (PIX). However if you are looking to save some money, book a flight to one of the other islands and take a boat or find another flight into Pico. Flight/boat hopping can be annoying, but it can be a lot cheaper. In terms of staying on the island... I have included a couple of places that are very reasonably priced. I seriously recommend trying to book these as early as a year in advance and no later than 6 months ahead of time. Spots fill up quickly, because of tourists in the summer. Also, the earlier you book the less expensive it will be. Utilize this option and you will be able to find the best prices. If you are considering traveling to other islands and flight hopping or taking a boat into Pico, here are the names of the best islands to do that and their airport codes: Faial (HOR) | São Jorge (SJZ) São Miguel (PDL) | Terceira (TER)

Rental Car

Pico Rental Cars

Unless you are staying in Sao Joao and don't want to see anything besides our lovely town, you should get a rental car. There are taxis available, but they are the more expensive option. Before you book anything, keep in mind that you will need to make sure that there are automatic cars available for you, if you do not know how to drive a manual. If you do not specify this, you will get a manual car. With that in mind, there is a Hertz on the island and you can book through a local Hertz. Otherwise, click the link for some other companies on island.

Boat Information

As mentioned before, you can book a flight to another island and take a boat into Pico Island. The two islands that you can come into Pico via boat are Faial and Sao Jorge. If you fly into Faial, you will be arriving in Madalena, Pico. This is only 30 minutes away from the town we are getting married in. If you fly in from Sao Jorge, you will be flying into Sao Roque, Pico and it will take around 45 minutes to get to our town. Both the boat trips are fairly short. You can book in advance but there is no need as boats are coming back and forth everyday, throughout the day.

Above I have included a link to help you start your search. You are looking for places as close to Sao Joao, Pico as possible. If you did get a rental car, even better! There are plenty of places to stay in bigger cities like Madalena or Lajes do Pico.
