Short answer, all of those are correct. São João is a town on the island of Pico. The island of Pico is part of a set of islands, called the Azores. The Azores are in the Atlantic Ocean and are a territory of Portugal.
We want as many people to be able to join us in celebration as possible. Trips to Portugal can take a lot of planning in advance and are expensive. We wanted to take all of this into consideration.
This was a decision brought on by COVID. We were going to have the wedding much sooner and in the same town we live in. Also, Conner was supposed to meet my family in the Azores this past summer and we had to cancel that trip. We decided, so Conner can meet all my family before we get married, to have the wedding and honeymoon in the Azores.
There are several really great resources. If you want to search on your own... remember to not learn Brazilian Portuguese, it is a different dialect and will not be very helpful. You want to find resources that have European Portuguese, instead. If you like apps, I recommend "memrise." If you prefer youtube, there is a channel called "Portuguese Lab" with lots of helpful stuff. If you prefer podcasts, there is a "Practice Portuguese" podcast you can find on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. If you want to learn from a program on a website, portuguesefromportugal.com is great. If you want to try and take a course, "Total Portuguese Foundation Course: Learn Portuguese with the Michel Thomas Method" is available on Amazon. Good Luck!
Absolutely not. A lot of locals speak English and almost every single one of the bride's family. Although, it wouldn't hurt and learning a new language can be fun.
In late November! They were all sent out November 15th. You may get them sooner, or later, depending on where you live!
As soon as possible! Pico is a vacation destination and because of COVID they are expecting a huge influx of people this summer. To guarantee yourself a spot, I recommend booking as soon as you know the dates you intend to go.
I would keep a lookout for good prices. The sweet spot is usually late November-March. Keep in touch on our Facebook group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/connerandmarina I try to post on there, whenever I find a good deal.
